The Domaine

True finesse and precise flavours with a mineral back-bone, this is what characterizes the wines of Domaine Robert-Denogent !

Origins of the Domaine...

It was at the very beginning of the 20th century that the great-grandfather Denogent founded the Domaine, consisting of a number of small parcels, situated on the best vineyards of the appellation.
A man of conviction and intuition, he was without doubt one of the first in Pouilly-Fuissé to establish the notion of terroir, though not fully maximizing it, as the wines were not domain bottled.

...A new generation,

It was in 1988, after studying law, that his grandson, Jean-Jacques Robert took control of the domain. Faithful to his grandfather's philosophy and closely associated with J. Néauport, M. Lapierre and K. Lynch, all three of whom are passionate about "terroir" wines, he brought about radical changes to the Domaine, giving it its letters patent of nobility. One of the major changes was, without dispute, deciding to age and bottle the entire production at the Domaine itself.

...The same passion for terroir,

A revolution when one knows just how important respect for the terroir is to JJ Robert, from cultivating the vineyard to vinification: "my terroirs must be accentuated and not concealed by anything artificial which would destroy their finesse and mineral aromas.

For this reason, I pick the harvest when the grapes are ripe without being overripe. Each cuvée is assembled according to the parcel that the grapes came from and I leave in natural yeast to react during fermentation.

One must avoid producing American-style wines which are made uniform by superficial marketing practices !
...Actualization

This very same respect for the various terroirs can be found throughout the traditional ageing process. After gently pressing and letting the juice settle, the wines, according to their cuvée, are transferred to oak barrels, of which 50% are new.

So as to encourage the full expression of the aromas characteristic of his terroirs, JJ Robert ages his wines on lees which he stirs regularly during a 12 to 15 month period.

The wines are then bottled, the crowning event which marks the previous year's efforts to produce quality wines for the consumer's enjoyment.
